The United Nations International Science and Peace Week Theme Activity “Peace” Sculpture Opening Ceremony and Peace Calligraphy Exhibition Successfully held in Beijing

       Recently, the commemoration of the 29th Anniversary of the United Nations International Science and Peace Week and the opening ceremony of the 29th China International Science and Peace Week was held in the Auditorium of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. More than 800 people from all walks of life such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Federation of Trade Unions, the All-China Women's Federation, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Chinese Writers Association and young students, as well as officials from the United Nations system in China and diplomats from foreign embassies in China, participated in the event. On November 18th, in order to celebrate the victory of the "Nineteenth National Congress", casting the theme of peace, and building a prosperous China, approved by the China Organizing Committee of the United Nations International Science and Peace Week, the World Cultural Diversity Organization, the Belt and Road Committee of the United Nations Friendship Association, and China Zhong An Peace Holding Co., Ltd. jointly organized the theme event, “Peace” Sculpture Opening Ceremony and Peace Calligraphy Exhibition, which was opened in Beijing’s Shangxinbao Peace Village.

Peace is an eternal theme in the development of human society. The new UN Secretary-General Guterres has spoken out to the world in his official oath: "Let us resolve to put peace in the first place." President Xi Jinping has repeatedly expressed the views at home and abroad that "The Chinese people cherish the peace". It is learned that in December 1988, the 43rd session of the UN General Assembly passed a resolution declaring the week of November 11th as the "International Science and Peace Week". In response to the call of the United Nations, since 1989, people from all walks of life in China have been carrying out the "International Science and Peace Week" charity activities nationwide, aiming to promote the scientific spirit, safeguard world peace, promote social development, and promote human progress. So far, it has been held for 28 sessions.

At the spot, the “Peace” white marble sculpture created by Mr. Fotao, a senior Chinese scholar funded by the villagers of the Peace Village in Shangxinbao, Beijing, stands in the square to express the dream of the villagers to build the world into a “Earth Peace Village and a Peaceful Global Village”. It is reported that the "Peace" sculpture was donated to the United Nations Headquarters as the designated sculpture of China International Science and Peace Week. It was placed in the office of the Secretary-General and highly praised by officials at the United Nations Headquarters. At the same time, it has achieved great international response.

At the same time, Mr. Fotao’s Peace Calligraphy Exhibition was also opened on the spot, attracting many fans of painting and calligraphy and collectors to visit and exchange.
